Who to report to
Responsibility for local problems in the United Kingdom is split between several organisations. ReportLocal works this out for you, but here is the general picture.
Your local council
Potholes, street lighting, fly-tipping, missed bin collections, abandoned vehicles, dangerous buildings, noise nuisance and pest control.
The police
Crime, antisocial behaviour involving people, harassment and suspicious activity. Call 999 in an emergency, 101 otherwise.
Your housing provider
Repairs, damp and mould, communal areas and neighbour disputes if you and your neighbour are tenants of the same landlord.
National Highways
Problems on motorways and major A roads rather than ordinary local streets.
Utility companies
Water leaks in the street, gas smells (call 0800 111 999 immediately) and power cuts.
Environmental health
Food hygiene concerns, statutory noise nuisance and unsafe living conditions.
In an emergency always call 999. Emergency guidance
